Identity Checks
At Nova Scotia Casino, each player is verified before any money changes hands. This protects your account and keeps us compliant with Canadian rules covering age, identity checks and money laundering.
1. Why we verify
Checks stop fraud, keep minors out and block dirty money.
We accept players only in jurisdictions where local law permits it. Knowing your identity ensures winnings reach the right person, prevents misuse of stolen cards and accounts, and keeps anyone under 19 from playing.
2. Record keeping and reporting
Verification records are kept, and suspicious activity is reported, as required by law.
Document copies, our check results and your transaction history are stored securely for the period Canadian law requires. We report suspicious activity to the relevant authorities. Because the law prevents us from telling you whether a report has been filed, we will neither confirm nor deny one.
3. Identity and age checks
ID, age and residence checks come first: no first deposit is processed until we complete them.
When you register, we compare your details with reliable data sources and verify where you are. If questions remain, we request documents, which you can upload through your account or email to us.
- Photo ID: a current provincial ID card, driver's licence or passport is accepted if it shows your picture and full legal name, plus your date of birth.
- Address document: upload a utility bill, government letter or bank statement dated in recent months, with your current home address clearly visible.
- Payment ownership: for PayPal, Skrill or Neteller, upload a screen capture of the account page that displays your name. For cards, photograph the card's front with its centre numbers masked.
Every image needs to be sharp and in colour, with all four corners visible. We do not accept documents that are expired or altered.
4. When verification fails
No verified identity means no withdrawals.
Deposits, play and withdrawals may be limited until checks are finished. If documents are missing or forged, or differ from the details held on your account, we may freeze it and void winnings tied to false information. In cases of fraud or a legal concern, we act under Canadian law.
5. PEP and sanctions screening
Every account is screened against official lists.
Every player is screened against sanctions lists and against lists of politically exposed persons, meaning people in senior public roles and their associates. A match does not automatically end our relationship, but it triggers further checks. We block accounts linked to sanctioned persons.
6. Source of funds
For larger or unusual activity, you must prove where your funds come from.
We accept recent pay slips, bank statements and tax documents, plus papers proving an inheritance, investment income or the sale of property you owned. Play remains on hold until the evidence is checked.
7. Ongoing monitoring
Verification is not a one-time event.
Our systems track deposits, withdrawals and betting patterns throughout the life of your account. Sudden changes, deposits and withdrawals with no real play, or use of payment methods in other names can trigger a fresh check. We may also ask you to refresh documents when they expire.
8. Contact
Questions about a check go to one place.
Email [email protected] with "Identity Checks" in the subject line. Our verification team will reply with what is needed and how to send it. For more on how we store your data, see Your Privacy.
